The movie hasn't even wrapped filming and already one of the hottest topics of speculation is "What will they wear?" Thanks in part to papparazzi shots of cast and crew taken during filming of outdoor scenes throughout Manhattan, we already have a hint of things to come. This past September 24, an unofficial still photograph of "Carrie Bradshaw" (Sarah-Jessica Parker) carrying the now famous "Eiffel Tower" handbag by designer Timmy Woods appeared in local newspaper New York's Daily News - the bag sold out within an hour and the designer had 90 backorders by the end of that day alone.
Rumour has it that brands that have already been tapped to provide clothing and accessories for the cast have signed a strict confidentiality agreement preventing them from commenting on the film (and therefore confirming their participation). Already, there is talk that Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo (of course) have been tapped as well as Christian Dior and Pierre Hardy. While Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo are now household names (thanks in part to well placed plugs on the television series), French shoe designer Pierre Hardy (one of my personal favorites) is not well-known outside fashion circles. He designs the shoes for luxury brands Balenciaga and Hermes in addition to his own eponymous shoe and handbag collections and he recently launched a small capsule shoe collection for Gap in Europe (the collection is likely to be distributed in key US cities in 2008). If in fact Pierre Hardy is one of the brands annointed by stylist Patricia Field, The Luxe Chronicles recommends he start erecting a shrine to Ms. Field in the Jardins du Palais Royal around the corner from his boutique. There is simply no better endorsement.
