The British Fashion Council (BFC) handed out its highest honors last night in London. The top honor, Designer of the Year, was awarded to Stella McCartney who beat out fellow nominees Anya Hindmarch and Luella Bartley for this prestigious designation. The biggest upset of the evening however was the award for Accessory Designer of the Year. The shoe designer Rupert Sanderson was strongly favored to win but the award in the end was given to Tom Binns.
The 2007 BFC Winners in their respective categories are:
Designer of the Year: Stella McCartney
Red Carpet Designer of the Year: Marchesa
New Designer of the Year: Christopher Kane
Best New Retail Concept of the Year: Marc Jacobs
Model of the Year: Agyness Deyn
Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator of the Year: Michael Howells
Menswear Designer of the Year: Christopher Bailey for Burberry
Accessory Designer of the Year: Tom Binns
A BFC award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion was given to Dame Vivienne Westwood for her contribution to British fashion. The awards were sponsored by Swarovski with UK Vogue’s editor Alexandra Schulman chairing the BFC’s selection committee. Winners were selected by fashion industry buyers and journalists.
