If you haven't already, The Luxe Chronicles recommends you pick up a copy of the January edition of U.S. Harper's Bazaar. While I have numerous issues with mainstream fashion publications, I am grateful to Glenda Bailey for her sustained efforts to raise awareness about the realities of counterfeit luxury goods. In addition to the magazine's ongoing awareness campaign entitled "Fakes Are Never In Fashion', the January edition features an article on the issue penned by investigative journalist Dana Thomas. Thomas is the author of Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster (The Penguin Press, 2007) released last August and has written and researched the issue extensively. In this particular article entitled "The Fake Trade" (p. 71), she dispels the myth that purchasing a counterfeit luxury product is a victimless crime and spells out the many repercussions of a growing industry.
The Luxe Chronicles believes that "ethical fashion" should be about more than just sustainable resources and organic cotton. There is nothing fashionable about promoting human misery. Please spread the word.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
