It may not be groundbreaking and may even seem 'safe' to some, but the Dior Fall/Winter 2008-09 collection is certainly pretty to look at and the perfect antidote to all the gray and black we've been seeing in New York, London and Milan. John Galliano channeled a late-60's aesthetic in an array of eye-popping colors that brought to mind the classic 60's comedy flick 'The Party' starring Peter Sellers and Claudine Longet. The ladylike suits, coats and dresses complete with matching hats and gloves in a variety of exotic skins looked elegant and youthful. The cocktail and evening dresses were consistent with the shapes and colors he presented in his haute couture collection in January. Also, the clumpy, complicated 'extreme' shoes that have been polluting runways in recent years have been replaced by a variety of brightly colored and elegant pumps, sandals and slingbacks in ostrich and python. While the late 60's aesthetic is hardly new, Galliano's reinterpretation and his use of exotic skins work well and provide a reassuring counterpoint to the hard, edgy creations of more conceptual designers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Rick Owens and the austere elegance of Balenciaga. At The Luxe Chronicles, we don't believe all fashion needs to be complicated and cerebral. Sometimes you just want clothing that makes you look good and feel happy. This collection does precisely that. Well done Mr. Galliano!
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles

Thank you for the kind words Trendini! After I viewed the entire Dior show on Style.com, I actually dug out the DVD and watched the movie again for the first time in years. It's unbelievable how well both the humor and the fashions have held up. Can't say the same for the hair.
