It's not often that a fashion insider will speak the brutal and honest truth about something that is fairly evident to the masses and so, when it does happen, my ears perk up like an eager puppy. "The Maestro", as my internet friend Manolo The Shoeblogger likes to call him, did just that in a recent interview with In Style magazine.
In a candid "The Emperor Has No Clothes" moment, Manolo Blahnik made the following comments about current shoe trends: "They don't even look like shoes. It's like talking in Chinese. I don't understand them at all. The past few years have been aesthetic hell for me. Even Daphne Guinness has made herself look ridiculous in monstrous shoes. It's because designers have forgotten about the importance of the harmony of extremes." (Source) "The Maestro" also had a few choice words for the fashion magazine industry: "I'm totally confused. I don't even know what taste is anymore. Frankly, I can't bear to buy magazines. I get so upset." (Source)
The Luxe Chronicles wishes to thank Mr. Blahnik for this moment of truth. It's balm for the soul. Or in this case, is it "sole"?
