The darling of the tennis world Maria Sharapova suffered a humiliating defeat at Wimbledon yesterday at the hands of Alla Kudryavtseva, ranked only 154th in the world. When interviewed after her victorious match during which she defeated her opponent in two straight sets, Kudryavtseva had this to say about her motivation: “I don’t like her outfit. Can I put it this way? It was one of my motivations to beat her.” Leaving the cattiness of the comment aside, could there be better testimony for the power of style and fashion?
