Someone may have waltzed out of Christie's New York Interiors sale with an undervalued treasure last week ... As mentioned in an earlier post, a few pieces of vintage Yves Saint Laurent ready-to-wear and costume jewelry were auctioned by Christie's New York during its July 1-2 Interiors sale. A total of seven pieces organized in separate lots were auctioned on the second day of the sale (July 2). There were few noteworthy pieces but there was one particular item worthy of a certain convoitise - a cocktail dress from YSL's early days at the helm of the House of Dior. Given the timing of the sale, a mere few weeks after YSL's passing, and the historical importance of the dress, I had anticipated the dress would fetch well over the Christie's pre-sale estimate: $1000-1500 USD (645-970 Euros/£510-765 GBP). Some lucky collector snagged the dress for a mere $1,063 (680 Euros/£540 GBP). Source What is the gloomy economic forecast? Was it the condition of the dress? Who knows. To the lucky bidder, I say well done! Enjoy your treasure.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
