Montreal: Yves Saint Laurent Retrospective - Don't Miss It!
During my brief jaunt to Montreal, I carved out just enough time to take in the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This exhibit, a retrospective spanning Saint-Laurent's forty years in the business, is quite simply breathtaking. All of Saint-Laurent's iconic creations are featured and many more. While the beauty of the garments speak to Saint Laurent's tremendous talent, it is the breadth of his influences and the vibrancy of his interpretations that truly grab you. My only regret was that I only had a few hours to dedicate to the exhibit and did not get the chance to go back again. As many of you already know, the exhibit closes in Montreal on September 28. It will then travel to San Francisco's De Young Museum where it will open on November 1 and will run until March 1, 2009. These are the only two venues in North America so if you can't make it to Montreal in time, I would recommend that you make your way to San Francisco. You won't be disappointed. As a treat for my readers, I will be publishing shortly an interview with Jill D'Alessandro of the San Francisco's De Young Museum, a curator of the exhibit.
Sincerely,

I know just what you mean! Let's just say that I've long had a fantasy involving getting locked over night in Nan Kempner's closet (my version of the ultimate candy store) which counts a very large proportion of Saint Laurent. Strolling through that exhibit revived that fantasy. A girl can dream ...

Wasn't it great??
It's too bad we're not allowed to paw and touch the fabric (understandably) of these creations, I can only dream of how luxurious it must feel on one's self.
Looking forward to read about SF's curator!
