When Guy Trebay Speaks, Fashion Followers Should Listen

If you haven't already read it, I recommend Guy Trebay's piece in Thursday's New York Times 'Style Section' entitled Wanted: Genius Designer. He offers some interesting observations about the current state of fashion most notably with the constant quest for the "The Next Big Thing" and the obsession with celebrity-driven trends. The piece includes interesting quotes from Julie Gilhart, the fashion director of Barney’s New York and Robert Burke, a former fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman who is now a luxury goods consultant. Trebay, Gilhart and Burke are all trusted and respected members of the fashion industry which makes you sit up and listen when they speak.
