It's always nice when good things happen to someone whom you know and respect. This is especially true when you know just how hard they work and the level of dedication and professionalism they bring to their work. This is precisely why I'm so pleased to tell you about 'Inside the Studio', the newest project launched by Imran Amed with the support of Swarovski.
Those of you who read his Business of Fashion blog are probably acquainted with Imran's mix of industry news, insider views and Q&A's with fashion executives, designers and other players. Like many of his readers, I like that he leaves aside the glamour and celebrity aspect of the business and focuses instead on the hard work and determination required to build a successful fashion or luxury brand, an aspect too often ignored or overlooked. This is precisely the perspective he brings to 'Inside the Studio'.
For the first installment of 'Inside the Studio', he sits down with acclaimed young British designer Giles Deacon. I had the opportunity to see the three-part interview at a private pre-screening at Swarovski's London communications offices and can tell you it offers a very revealing glimpse of Deacon's creative process and approach to the business of fashion. The interview also delves into the collaborative efforts between Deacon and Swarovski for his Spring/Summer 2009 collection which featured a stunning Swarovski crystal-encrusted dress with Pacman motifs. The dress in question was on display at the pre-screening and I can honestly say it is absolutely exquisite.
The interview will be revealed in three chapters on Business of Fashion and Swarovski Sparkles from today, February 3rd with subsequent chapters to follow.
• CHAPTER I Foundation "Unstructured Exploration…" February 3, 2009
• CHAPTER II Creative Process "A Designer Who Has Always Drawn…" February 9, 2009
• CHAPTER III Business "The Surprise of Collaboration…" February 16, 2009
This is required viewing for anyone serious about understanding what goes into creating "fashion". Don't miss it!
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
