Fringes, feathers, bold colors, extreme shoulders, cocktail attire in broad daylight ... nothing seems to phase Anna dello Russo, Fashion Director At Large, Vogue Nippon and perennial favorite of chroniclers of street style. Bedecked in all the most fashion-forward ensembles straight off the runway, usually accessorized with a pair of vertiginous heels and eye-catching statement jewelry (many pieces by David Webb and Bulgari), she frequently looks like she's stepped straight off the pages of an editorial spread. While I admire her style a great deal now, I didn't always get it.
I must admit, when I first discovered Anna dello Russo via The Sartorialist, I was intrigued but slightly gobsmacked by just how fearless her sense of style was. Her ensembles at first seemed just a teensy bit contrived to me. The intrigue however soon gave way to fascination and eventually, full on admiration both for her chutzpah but also for the fact that she seems to be genuinely having fun with her fashions. While I'm a fan of Anna Wintour and admire what she has accomplished for the American fashion industry during her tenure at American Vogue, I've never sensed that she enjoys fashion with quite the same enthusiasm as dello Russo (at least if she does, she doesn't show it). Anna dello Russo is perhaps more in the mold of Carine Roitfeld in that she has a definite knack for making her enthusiasm for fashion infectious. Watching her makes me want to try a little harder, be a little bolder, take more risks. Most definitely something to aspire to.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
One of the few italians getting good press today, so kudos to her I say...
love her sense of style and the fact that she gladly lets herself be photograph...fashion after all is a voyeuristic business. She is such a glamazon, love her! She is so fierce, btw in this country (I live in Italy) she gets very little attention, a shame really. peace n'love xo

I say kudos to Ms. dello Russo! As a designer myself, I've always been a little perplexed at the decided lack of fashion enthusiasm in some of the fashion press. Sequined tiger print mini-dress with sky-high heels in broad daylight! I've never met you, Anna, but I love you!

I noticed Dello Russo's prominence this season in Paris. She is a serious fashion force and a bonafide cult star in Japan. When she descends on the show venues, the Japanese street photographers go mental.

Looooove her style!!!
I wish American Vogue would borrow her and inject some life into their pages...she has great fashion sense and her involvement with Nippon Vogue has been fun to watch!!
