Today is Memorial Day in the United States. It is also Fleet Week in my former home, New York City, a time when the city is overrun with clean cut, handsome young men in uniform - a nice change from the usual downtown hipster/mid-town business casual/up-town BCBG crowds. Military uniforms in all their glory have therefore been on my mind lately.
Like most people, when I think of military uniforms, images of men (as opposed to women) come to mind. Given that an increasing number of women are now embracing military careers, this view seems antiquated. Moreover, women have been active in the armed forces as far back asĀ WWII. The above photograph of WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) serves as a good reminder of this. As women increasingly carve out places for themselves in the armed forces, we all need to adjust our visual references. Enjoy your Memorial Day.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles

Fabulous photo and shame we don't have such a splendid day in the UK nor do we have the delight of fleet week in London - which we could if there was a will - it would be fab!
