So few design books are worth reading attentively (if at all). We purchase them primarily for the images of beautiful interiors that inspire us to dream. Every so often however, someone comes along and breaks that rule. I'm happy to say that Ashley Hicks, son of David Hicks and designer in his own right, has done precisely that. David Hicks: A Life of Design (Rizzoli, 2009) is a poignant and loving tribute to his late father's life-long commitment to elegant design and pursuit of beauty.
The book is chalk full of images of the stunning interiors that made his father's one of the defining aesthetics of post WWII interior design. It's also full of personal anecdotes that help flesh out the man behind the aesthetic, stories that only a loving family member could offer. David Hicks: A Life of Design will make a wonderful holiday gift for anyone in your life with a passion for interior design. I highly recommend it.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
