The New York Times' Style Section has an interesting piece on the impact of the critically-acclaimed television series Mad Men on men's fashion. While the series' influence on women's fashion was felt almost immediately (recall Michael Kors' Fall/Winter 2008 collection), men's fashion has been a little slower to catch on. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to feel about this.
Lest there be any confusion, I'm a huge fan of both the series and the fashions depicted therein. The drunkenness, philandering and rampant sexism? Not so much. So by all means gentlemen, go right ahead and indulge your inner Don Draper. Just limit his influence to the sartorial rather than the moral.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
Well said, thank you. glad to know that people are thinking about the fashion cycles of attitudes and social conduct, besides just clothes. The clothes are handsome, the attitudes are ugly and backweirds.
