Fashion: Is It Party Season Already?

Dec 04 2009

Catherine Deneuve

Alright! Party season is upon us and it's time to address that nagging question: Whatever shall I wear?!? If you're anything like me, you've been too busy to really ponder that question seriously and now the first parties you've committed to attending are coming up. If that wasn't enough, I'm behind on my Christmas shopping and I'm hoping to whisk my poor, overworked husband away to a nice, relaxing locale between Christmas and New Year's for a few days of sun and warmth. I feel like I'm running a marathon. I would be considerably more panicked than I am in actual fact were it not for online fashion emporium Net-A-Porter and its discount sister site theOutnet.com.

I was invited to Net-A-Porter's press day to view the Cruise 2010 collection but I wasn't able to attend. They kindly sent me their look book so that I could get a sense of the collections. It doesn't really matter whether you're looking for a sexy pair of dancing shoes, a sparkly clutch or the perfect party frock - it's all there in one place, accessible 24/7 either from your desktop or from your iPhone thanks to Net-App. While I shop on Net-A-Porter all year round, it is this particular time of the year when I appreciate their impeccable service and selection of fashions and accessories the most.

This year, I've decided that I want fashions that will do double duty - something that can take me from work to party circuit with a simple change of accessories. To pull off that particular look requires very bold accessories like the Giuseppe Zanotti mirror sandals or the Malene Birger multiple pearl and rhinestone necklace. Of course, if I wanted to make my husband really happy, I would splurge on one of those sexy mini-dresses by my beloved Roland Mouret. I'm particularly fond of the navy "Seferino" dress which spotlights your legs but demurely covers up the rest - a little restraint is always a good way to stand out in a sea of glitter and cleavage. I call it subversive sex-appeal.

Net-A-Porter is also featuring some new designers for Cruise 2010 including Vix, a San Diego-based swimwear label and Virginia Johnson, a former accessories designer at Helmut Lang who has now launched her own brand of accessories which include some very pretty scarves and shawls. The site also has a new feature for the holidays called Gift Finder with gift suggestions thoughtfully organized by categories (I've already sent the link to my husband's Blackberry).

As far as one-stop shopping goes, it would be awfully difficult to beat the reliability of service and wealth of selection on Net-A-Porter. While they haven't completely removed all the stress associated with the holidays, they've gone a very long way towards making it more enjoyable. Happy Holiday Shopping!

Sincerely,

The Luxe Chronicles

The image of La Deneuve is priceless. This made my day.
