"Et alors Monsieur?"
Monsieur le Ministre:
I write to you regarding the matter of beleaguered couture house Christian Lacroix. As you know, the tribunal de commerce de Paris decided on Tuesday to accept the liquidation plan submitted by the house's owners. Under this dismal plan, all but eleven jobs will be saved and the couture and ready-to-wear businesses will be shuttered reducing the House of Christian Lacroix to a mere licensing operation. More importantly, another piece of French cultural patrimony will be allowed to wither and die. Quel triste sort.
Shortly after you took office, you expressed publicly your intention to assist Christian Lacroix in finding a solution to the financial crisis that threatened to shutter his business. Describing the potential loss of Monsieur Lacroix's couture house as "un désastre culturel" (a cultural disaster), you vowed to step in and in your own words "ne pas rester inerte" (not remain passive).
With all due respect Monsieur le Ministre, what exactly are you waiting for?
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
A slight mistranslation I think, I read the article as "All but 12 jobs will be lost".

Couldn't agree with you more John Agee Paris. Do you think the French state should step in and save Lacroix's couture business?

This is truly sad. I fear with this "Great Recession", we'll see more of this. Un jour très triste pour ceux qui aiment la beauté....
