Almost exactly two months ago, print, television and online media was saturated with coverage of the devastating earthquake that hit the tiny, impoverished island of Haiti. Heartbreaking images of human suffering amidst mountains of rubble, stories of miraculous survival and heroic efforts to rescue the too few souls lucky enough to have escaped death were everywhere - you couldn't avoid it if you tried. Today, you would be hard pressed to find any coverage relating to the earthquake's aftermath with one exception: Fashion for Relief.
Starting today, March 15 and for two weeks only, Net-A-Porter in collaboration with Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief initiative will be selling beautiful garments donated by a veritable "who's who" of the fashion world. I was given the opportunity along with a few other lucky bloggers to view the collection (we also got to play dress-up with the clothing too which was quite a bit of fun). I can assure you that there are some truly exceptional pieces for sale from Chloe, Celine (including the super cool utility jacket which I saw on the back of quite a few fashion editors while I was in Milan), Mulberry, Roksanda Ilincic, Christian Dior, Christian Louboutin, etc. The list goes on and on.
All net proceeds from the sale will be donated to The White Ribbon Alliance, an international coalition of organizations and individuals who work tirelessly to save the lives of pregnant women and newborn babies around the world. The funds raised from this year's Fashion for Relief initiative will be dedicated to rebuilding the healthcare system for mothers and their babies in Haiti. I find this charity especially worthy because the sad reality is that women and young children are often the most vulnerable victims of a humanitarian crisis. I invite you to take this opportunity to help the women and children of Haiti by purchasing one of these lovely garments or accessories. Buy early, by often. It's for a very worthy cause.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
