Luxury: Exploring The Science Behind Guerlain's Orchidée Impériale.

The recession has done little to dampen the ardour of luxury brands for celebrity spokesmodels and so the love affair between perveyors of fineries and practitioners of the seventh art continues unabated. French cosmetics brand Guerlain is set to unveil today the first of a series of short films dedicated to its Orchidée Impériale skincare line featuring Michelle Yeoh.

Ms. Yeoh who starred in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and who more recently incarnated Burmese political activist Aung San Suu Kyi in the biopic The Lady has been enlisted to narrate the story of Guerlain's quest to harness the science of orchids in the pursuit of beauty. Guerlain has invested considerable ressources in the development of this product line including extensive research in agrobiology, phytochemistry and biodiversity so a series of films to help explain the scientific claims behind the products makes a certain amount of sense. This being said, the films are also adverts and I for one am happy to see that the brand has opted for a mature actress with a solid body of work behind her to front the campaign. It's also refreshing to see a luxury brand embrace a bit of diversity.

The first episode of “Exploring Orchidée Impériale” by Michelle Yeoh: “The Story of a Quest” will go live on Guerlain.com, Facebook and YouTube later today. The following episodes will be unveiled over the next few weeks via various social media platforms. Stay tuned.

Orchidee Imperiale! Recalls Yehonala, the Manchurian name of the Empress Dowager.

It's a long way for a poor little rich girl from small town Ipoh to the Cannes celebrity carpet and the Hollywood marquee. But Michelle Yeoh is proof that you can have a second act in life if:

a) you put your shoulder to the wheel and really work through the thicket.
b) are fortified by a ``miracle'' anti-aging cream. (*-^)
c) have good karma!
