Hey, over here! Look at me!! Look at meeeeeee!
I'm not certain exactly when I starting turning off to street style blogs. Perhaps it's when the same cast of characters kept popping up over and over again. Or, when the endearingly quirky outfits stopped being endearingly quirky and became slightly ridiculous. Or, when the street style bloggers (and their subjects) started shilling for brands, magazines, websites and just about anyone willing to pay their way to the shows.
Whatever fraîcheur that once characterised this genre at the beginning has been thoroughly wrung out of it by excess, over exposure and a certain connivance between blogger and subject. It all seems tired and cynical now. With the exception of the NYT's Bill Cunningham (who may not have invented the genre per se but certainly gave it its credibility and continues to infuse it with soul), I'm over it. Next!
