Last night in New York, Oscar de la Renta unveiled his Fall/Winter 2013 collection, which included the input of former Dior creative director John Galliano. I will leave it to the fashion experts to pour over the details of the collection and pass judgement. I would prefer to simply highlight the supremely elegant gesture underlying the collaboration. I believe Mark Holgate of American Vogue said it very well:
We’ll get to the clothes in a minute, but in the meantime, another thought struck about this working arrangement—the reminder of what a gentleman Oscar de la Renta is. In an industry that nowadays can seem just a little too cutthroat and fast to forget in its surge to satisfy its global ambitions, de la Renta’s simple yet generous gesture to Galliano—extending the offer to come help, and start to work again—feels very real and human-scaled. On that count, bravo Oscar.
Well done Mr. de la Renta. Well done Mr. Galliano. I for one would love to see this lovely "creative conversation" go on and on.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
i like it. i admit this is the first time i've EVER seen a full-length oscar de la renta runway show. i've only seen "oscar" at the oscars, on movie stars. it makes a much better statement when the real pros behind the catwalk style the models, than it does when the stylists take the same look and put it together for the stars. they always do something wrong -- probably because the star insist on it. i'll take the catwalk look any day. very nice.
